Remembering K9 Rudy

WESTMINSTER, Colo – It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our brave and beloved K9 Rudy who died on Saturday, Jan. 4 at age four, due to cancer.

K9 Rudy was born in the Netherlands and joined the Westminster Police Department in January 2022 at the age of two. He served the community with unwavering dedication alongside his handler and best friend, Officer Stroup, in patrol operations to include apprehension, tracking, building searches, article searches, area searches and obedience. Rudy was also highly skilled in explosive odor detection and was integrated into the Westminster SWAT team, becoming the designated K9 for SWAT deployments.

Throughout his career, K9 Rudy was deployed more than 90 times for a variety of missions and helped locate 28 criminals. His commitment to duty was exceptional, with more than 1,100 hours of training in various disciplines, making him an invaluable member of the team.

When he wasn’t out catching criminals, K9 Rudy loved spending time at home with his family and chewing on his favorite ball.

To say K9 Rudy will be missed is an understatement and while words can’t fully capture the impact he had, his legacy of loyalty, courage and devotion will remain in our hearts forever.
