On August 5, 2024, just after 2 p.m., officers with the Westminster Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment in the 9100 block of North Vance Street.

Once on scene, officers learned two deputies with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office – Civil Division, were serving an eviction notice. The deputies were allowing the tenant to retrieve basic belongings when he armed himself with a gun. As one of the deputies was attempting to disarm the tenant, the gun went off. No one was injured and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies took the tenant, a male, into custody.

The male was transported to the Westminster Police Department and booked on the charges of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Obstruction of a Peace Officer and Reckless Endangerment.

It should be noted that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
