WESTMINSTER, Colo -- This week we want to highlight our amazing Co-Responder Unit, a very special team here at the Westminster Police Department. This dedicated group of mental health professionals partners with our officers to respond calls for service where their skills and expertise in behavioral health, substance abuse and resource navigation would be beneficial to the community.

The Co-Responder Unit works with a variety of city staff to include: Westminster Fire Department crews, public safety dispatchers, homeless navigators, animal management, and the municipal court. The Co-Responder Unit also offers support to family members and community partners to coordinate care and find appropriate resources.

Within just this year (since January 2024), Co-Responders have been dispatched to over 1,600 calls for service and have been able to keep officers available on more than 400 of these calls. Our Co-Responders are an invaluable asset, helping to de-escalate situations and connect those in need with critical services.

Thank you, Co-Responders, for all you do!
