WESTMINSTER, Colo -- Westminster Police Department detectives recently recovered two vehicles that were stolen in another state and listed for sale in Westminster via Facebook Marketplace.
The thief had swapped out the VINs, replaced the federal safety stickers with fraudulent ones and manipulated the odometers, listing inaccurate, lower mileage for both vehicles. While these small details are sometimes hard to spot, buyers should always use caution when purchasing a used vehicle and complete a vehicle history report before purchasing.
WPD detectives, along with assistance from the CATPA Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force (CMATT), took the fraudulent seller into custody. Both stolen vehicles will be returned to their rightful owners. We have reason to believe there could be additional victims which is why we've included the mugshot of the suspect identified as Pedro Morales-Garcia, 46.
If you believe you've been victimized by this man, please call WPD at 303-658-4360.
