WESTMINSTER, Colo — It's National Crime Victims' Rights Week — a time to honor the strength of victims and survivors of crime. We also want to recognize our compassionate WPD Victim Advocates who ensure victims of crimes have access to resources and support throughout the justice process.

  • Victims of crimes have the right to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect.

  • You have the right to be free from intimidation, harassment or abuse. The Victims’ Rights Act ensures you have the right to be informed of community resources and crime victims’ compensation.

  • As a victim, you are entitled to a free copy of the initial incident report.

  • You have the right to be informed of and present for all critical stages of the criminal justice process.

  • You have the right to complete a victim impact statement and address the court at sentencing.

  • When you opt in, you have the right to be notified of the defendant’s probation modification, revocation or resentencing.

Es la Semana Nacional de los Derechos de las Víctimas del Delito —  un tiempo para honrar la fuerza de las víctimas y sobrevivientes del crimen. También queremos reconocer la compasión de los #WPD defensores de víctimas que aseguran que víctimas de los delitos tengan acceso a recursos y apoyo durante el proceso de justicia.

  • Víctimas del Delito tienen el derecho a recibir un trato justo, respetuoso y digno.

  • Tiene el derecho a no ser intimidada, o acosada o abusada.

  • Los Derechos de las víctimas de delito asegura que tiene el derecho a ser informado de recursos de comunidad y compensación de víctimas. 

  • Como víctima, tiene derecho a una copia gratuita del informe inicial del incidente.

  • Tiene derecho a ser informado y a estar presente en todas las etapas críticas del proceso de justicia penal.

  • Tiene derecho a completar una declaración de impacto de víctima y dirigirse al tribunal en el momento de la sentencia.

  • Cuando opta por notificaciones, tiene derecho a ser notificado de la modificación, revocación o resentencia de la libertad condicional del acusado.
