WPD investigating Friday night shooting that left one dead

WESTMINSTER, Colo [UPDATE 01/19/2025] – On Saturday, Jan. 18, officers obtained a search warrant and took an adult male into custody just after 5 p.m.

During questioning, new information was revealed about the events of that evening. After further discussions with the District Attorney’s Office, the man was released based on the statement provided and the facts of the scene, but the department continues to investigate all leads in this case. These types of cases are sensitive and are often times more complex than they may seem.
The autopsy results and the processing of the handgun recovered at the crime scene will help confirm details, but could take weeks. The Westminster Police Department is not searching for any additional suspects at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and there is no active threat to the community.

WESTMINSTER, Colo – The Westminster Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened late Friday night at a hotel near 120th Ave and Delaware St.

Just after 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, officers with the Westminster Police Department responded to the La Quinta Inn at 345 W 120th Ave for a reported shooting. Once on scene, officers located a deceased man inside a room with a gunshot wound.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect left on foot after the shooting. Officers searched the area extensively, but at this time the suspect has not been located.

After further investigation, it was determined the suspect and victim knew each other. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is not an active threat to the community. WPD is actively following leads and will release more information when available.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Westminster Police Department at 303-658-4360.

It should be noted that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
