We want to make the community aware of a recent incident reported near McKay Lake. On August 12 just before 10 a.m., the victim said she was walking on the footpath north of McKay Lake when a male approached her, grabbed her backside and took off. The victim immediately called 911 and was able to walk to the McKay Lake parking lot. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30's with a buzzcut haircut wearing a gray zip jacket with a possible red shirt underneath, black pants and sunglasses. A drone was activated and Westminster and Broomfield PD officers checked the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the male. Our Victim Advocates responded to the scene for support and we checked with surrounding agencies for any similar incidents. We understand this is concerning and we will be doing extra patrols in the area. We want everyone to stay diligent and report any suspicious activity to non-emergency dispatch 303-658-4360.

The Westminster Police Department would like to inform you of a burglary trend happening across the metro area. This trend has recently impacted our community with multiple small business & home burglaries. The individuals committing these crimes are known to follow small business owners home from work & burglarize their homes while they are away. In some cases, these suspects will place trackers on victims’ vehicles and/or monitor victims’ homes with hidden surveillance cameras (picture included below for reference). If you find a suspicious device, do not handle. Please contact your non-emergency dispatch.
